What got you into this business?
Growing up, I always had a big imagination and a love for the arts and storytelling. In high school, I took a journalism class where I found a passion for creating narratives and connecting people with real brand stories. Choosing communications as my major in college opened so many doors, and I learned about the impact of audience connection, strategic communications and reporting. Public relations is the perfect combination of all the things I love about journalism and crisis communications, and it’s given me the opportunity to make a real impact!
Who has been a big influence in your career?
Both of my parents have played a huge role in kick-starting my career. My mom is my biggest cheerleader, and she is constantly encouraging me to chase what excites me most and lead with passion, just as she has done throughout her career. My dad has shown me the value of hard work and building genuine, lasting relationships, reminding me to be myself and make connections wherever I go. Before every soccer game growing up, my parents used to tell me to to “play great and have fun,” and that mantra is still so relevant and inspiring in my career.
Where did you grow up and what was it like?
Even though my parents and sisters are from New Orleans, I am the only one in my family who was born and raised in Atlanta, GA! Growing up in Atlanta gave me so many incredible memories, from exploring the Beltline with friends to long walks in Piedmont Park and playing tour guide when family came to visit with trips to the World of Coke. Although the traffic and Hartsfield Jackson Airport test your patience, it’s the people of Atlanta and the memories that make it home.
What was college like for you?
I went to Loyola University Chicago for college! Believe it or not, I had only spent one day in Chicago before committing to LUC—I didn’t even stay overnight. I wanted to experience a brand-new place with so much to offer, and Chicago did the trick. Loyola struck the ideal balance between independence and community, with small classes paired with a major city just steps outside the classroom. In Chicago, I was constantly inspired, never bored and surrounded by creative and smart people who have become lifelong friends.
