What got you into this business?

Like most people, it was a roundabout process. I was working in the public sector in a job that required me to interact with the news media. I got to know most of the newspaper and television reporters and enjoyed working with them. That led to an invitation to join Montgomery & Stire to head up its public relations department. I stayed in that position for 16 years and became a partner before leaving to start this firm in 1996.

What was your “finest moment” in the profession?

The thing I continue to be proud of is the opening of the National D-Day Museum, now The National World War II Museum in 2000. We replicated the original opening in 2001 with the opening of the Pacific Exhibit. The museum has continued to expand into one of America’s outstanding institutions, and I’m very proud of the work we did with Stephen Ambrose and Nick Mueller in taking it from an idea and what it is today.

What’s your favorite travel destination?

Florence. Pia and I were married there and return whenever possible – three or four times by now. It’s a beautiful, historic and culturally incredible. Also, in Italy you are only a train ride away from Venice, Milan, Rome and even lovely places like Lake Como and Lucca.

What are the two things that most people do not know about you?

First, I love the visual arts, live theater and everything about New York City. Secondly, my hobby is pruning the City Park hedges right across from our home.
