Galatoire’s Restaurant Announces Opening of Galerie de Galatoire

The newest dining location in the Galatoire’s family opens at 211 Royal Street

NEW ORLEANS – (May 12, 2021) – Galatoire’s Restaurant announces that it is bringing its more than 115-year tradition and French Creole cuisine to Royal Street with the addition of Galerie de Galatoire, the largest, non-hotel, dining room in the French Quarter.

Guests can now experience the time-honored tradition that is Galatoire’s, the grand dame of New Orleans’ restaurants, in a new dining setting, serving Galatoire’s classic signature fare, the finest selection of wines and hand-crafted cocktails for occasions including weddings, corporate functions, Mardi Gras festivities, holiday parties and more.

“We are taking the time-honored Galatoire’s experience to a new level with the addition of Galerie de Galatoire,” said Galatoire’s President and CEO Melvin Rodrigue. “Our Royal Street location offers a premier space for luxury dining in the heart of the city, exemplifying classic New Orleans and French Quarter ambiance.

Galerie de Galatoire boasts an exquisite European interior with French and Italian references. Located on the second floor of the old Hurwitz Mintz Furniture building at 211 Royal Street, across from Hotel Monteleone New Orleans, Galerie de Galatoire features 5,500 square feet and a capacity of 450 guests.

Consistency has been the greatest asset displayed by Galatoire’s for more than a century. The world-famous New Orleans cuisine and impeccable service of Galatoire’s are carried over to Galerie de Galatoire as every aspect and attention to detail in this new dining room reflects the traditional experience guests have enjoyed at Galatoire’s for generations.

Eugenie Gibbens and Sweet Dupuy, of Gibbens Dupuy Decoration, sought to create in Galerie de Galatoire a beguiling French Quarter fantasy evoking a stylish and effortless refined ease, with layers of detail achieved by sourcing remarkable local talent.

Gibbens and Dupuy collaborated with key New Orleanian master craftsmen to bring to life the interior whimsy of Galerie de Galatoire.  Gus Hartdegen & Sons Architectural Millwork created the intricate treillage, inspired by the Pavillon Frais at Versailles and the noted French heritage of New Orleans. Jeff Porrèe Plasterwork, a fifth-generation plasterer, created the majestic plaster palm trees hand sculpted by in-house artists Christopher Caravella Jones and Edy Ramos. Local artist Kaki Foley of Tattered Design Atelièr applied faux marble detailing and painted inset paneling.  Brandon Wilkins Studio draped the entry stairwell in 400 yards of an ochre Scalamandre ticking stripe, its color sourced from a historic paint color discovered on the interior walls under many layers of paint. Terrazzo Masters created an iconic, artisanal terrazzo floor, hand mixing and pouring the Gibbens Dupuy floor design with an intricate Greek key border and inset banding.  Stafford Tile sourced hand molding “koi” fish scale tiles for the bathrooms in subtle taupes and pinks, with a color palette derived directly from brick dust found on site during renovation.  BYZANTIVM hand-crafted oak leaf chandeliers and sconces in Europe, and finally Yvette Rutledge and Vince Mitchell of Mystic Blue Signs rendered the Galerie de Galatoire crest on the exterior entry with hand applied reverse glass water gilding.

Galerie de Galatoire is the latest addition to the Galatoire portfolio. In 2012, Galatoire’s opened a second restaurant right next door to its famed, original Bourbon Street location at 215 Bourbon with Galatoire’s “33” Bar & Steak, serving traditional steakhouse fare. “33” also features a wine room and dining spaces upstairs.

“With the addition of Galerie de Galatoire, we are now able to accommodate more reservations especially for our sought-after Galatoire’s Friday lunches, during the holidays and special occasions. While we can currently seat 200 guests at our Bourbon Street location, we are now able to have the capacity for 450 more guests for these signature celebrations on Royal Street,” said Rodrigue. “We think our timing is perfect as we expect the city to come back stronger than ever from the COVID-19 pandemic this fall and into 2022.”

Galerie de Galatoire offers a main dining room that can be divided into two dining spaces or utilized as one large dining room, a chef’s gallery, a high-walled terrace and two full balconies overlooking Royal Street.
