Laura Aviles: “From Intern to Public Relations Professional”
With graduation season upon us, I wanted to share my story of how I graduated from intern to Public Relations professional.
I started my PR career with The Ehrhardt Group in 2016. As an intern, I learned how to effectively pitch the news media to secure coverage, how to generate media coverage reports to show off our results, and I also mastered helpful industry programs such as TVEyes and Cisionpoint – all are skills I still use today.
However, the most important skill I learned during my internship was how to excel in an agency environment. It was important to me that I completed assignments ahead of deadlines and learned how to prioritize my time. Taking the extra step to go above and beyond the expectation and learn as much as possible within a given semester, allowed me to gain valuable experience which ultimately opened the door to the next step in my career as Account Administrator. My graduation from intern to PR professional made me realize the real-world experience is just as important as a college degree. I am the professional I am today because of my experience as a TEG intern.
